Work Out Your Mind

The 3 H's:  Head to Hands to Heart

Are you beyond ready to create a new habit?

A little something from Dr. Joe Dispenza's "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One":

If You Can Master Suffering, You Can Just as Easily Master Joy

You probably know someone who has mastered suffering, right?  So you call her and ask, "How are you?"
     So-so.
"Listen, I'm going to go out with some friends to a new art gallery, and then eat at this restaurant that has really healthy desserts.  Afterward, we're going to listen to some live music.  Would you like to come with us?
No, I don't feel like it.
But if she said what she actually meant, she'd say, I've memorized this emotional state, and nothing in my environment- no person, no experience, no condition, no thing- is going to move me from my internal chemical state of suffering.  It feels better to be in pain than to let go and be happy.  I am enjoying my addiction for now, and all these things that you want to do might distract me from my emotional dependency.
But guess what?  We can just as easily master an internal chemical state such as joy or compassion.

Celebrating MLK's Legacy: Dreams Do Come True

Consider that fifty years ago, it is highly unlikely that I would have been your yoga teacher.

A.  I would have been considered by the general population to be colored.  If you were not colored, our social milieus would rarely overlap.  If they did, they would be suffocated by cultural and legal barriers.

B.  Colored or not, I would not have had access to the education that has informed my teaching.  I have attended excellent institutions of learning as well as pursued higher education at universities because of the movers and shakers and dreamers of the Civil Rights Movement.

Remember that you are living in someone else's vision; remember that someday someone will be living in your vision.  Martin Luther King, Jr said, "it is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning."  Whether or not you are a Christian (I'm not), he conceptualized a world where people could do the simple things together- pray together, work together, join hands and "sit down together at the table of brotherhood."

Someone lived their life so that we could breathe together.  Someone lived their life so that we could dream together.

Make your dreams, however unrealistic they may seem in the present moment, beautiful- "even in the United States, the power of a dream can change the most entrenched reality."

Namaste.
